When is a Junior Bike Needed?
When your child’s bike starts getting too small, it’s time for a new bike, and then it’s important to choose an appropriate size. Even if your child is riding their old bike safe and steady, the switch to a larger bike can involve some uncertainty. All of a sudden it’s further to the ground, and it can be particularly difficult to maintain balance when the bike comes to a stop.
It’s therefore important that you don’t choose a bike that is too large for your child, as this can create dangerous situations, especially in high-traffic areas. A rule of thumb when it comes to junior bikes is that your child should be between 130 and 160 centimetres tall.
However, it’s also important to consider your child’s body size and how it compares to the average. Measure your child’s inseam (from the foot to the groin), which is a more accurate way to determine the right bike size. We have prepared a table showing the different inseam lengths in relation to bike size:
Child’s inseam: 53-63 centimetres – Frame size 20”
Child’s inseam: 58-70 centimetres – Frame size 24”
Child’s inseam: 68-82 centimetres – Frame size 26”
Measuring your child’s inseam and using this table will help you to more accurately determine the bike size that will suit your child, since the inseam to height ratio is not the same for everyone.
Women's bike 24-26 inch - classic women's bike in a smaller format
Our women's bikes are suitable for all children who want a women's bike in a fairly small size. Just like a women's bike, this type of bike has a low-step frame, which makes it easy to get up on the saddle. The handlebars are high so the child has an upright posture when riding, which relieves the back. The soft saddle makes cycling comfortable. Heavy objects such as a sturdy bicycle lock can be fastened to the package holder.
MTB 24-26 inches - a mountain bike for juniors
Has your child started to look with envy at those big mountain bikes whizzing along the bike lanes? Then our mountain bike in 24 or 26 inches can be the perfect entry point. The all-round tires provide good grip even in lighter terrain and the flat pedals provide a foothold even when the bike rides over roots and rocks. Our 24 or 26 inch mountain bikes are suitable for all children who like tougher bikes for tougher rides - just remember to protect your kid with a bicycle helmet.
