Paint sealer for antifouling paint
the paint sealers in Biltema’s range can be used both before you paint the boat hull and when you need to paint on top of existing antifouling paint.
Our paint sealers are suitable as sealers/sealing coats for existing antifouling paints on fibreglass, metal and wooden hulls. They can also be used as a primer before applying new antifouling paint to wood and metal.
Why we recommend the use of primer
It is highly recommended to use primer when painting your boat. The primer prepares the surface for painting (and for the finishing). There are many advantages to using primer, some of which we describe now.
If you use primer for boat painting, you can expect a better result, and that in itself is reason enough to use it. However, you will also find that it is typically easier and faster to paint the boat if primer is applied first.
Applying primer
To apply primer, you will need some tools. Typically, primer can be applied with a roller, sprayer or brush. If you want to use a sprayer, it may be necessary to use a diluting product. As you may have noticed, we sell this too. See the instructions on how to use the individual products when you click on your desired product. It couldn’t be easier.
On the individual product pages, you can also learn more about the content and coverage of the primers (coverage is typically stated in square metres). Before using primer, you should familiarise yourself with how much to apply, and it is good to know the drying time. Only when the primer is completely dry can you start the actual painting work.
Also remember to check whether the boat primer is suitable for use above and/or below the waterline.
