Most boat owners know how important it is to take care of the wood to prevent the it from breaking and spoiling. Cruising along the coast aboard a shiny and well-painted wooden is an amazing experience for both passengers and onlookers. In this guide, we will help you find the right surface treatment for your wooden boat.
Outdoor wood oil and varnish
Your boat’s wooden surfaces must be protected from UV rays as well as moisture and dust so as not to dry out, mould, or rot. But the wooden surfaces should also look beautiful. If you want a glossy and durable surface, boat varnish is the most obvious choice. In our range you will find two options - 1-component urethane alkyd enamel and 2-component polyurethane varnish (PU varnish). The latter has better wear resistance and is also resistant to chemicals.
Interior wood oil and interior varnish
The wooden surfaces on the deck and inside the hull must be cared for just as carefully as the outside of the boat. However, it can be good to have more matte surfaces inside the boat to prevent annoying sun reflections and glare. So a matte boat varnish or oil is a good option. At Biltema, you will find both interior varnish and wood oil suitable for teak. We recommend that you use our base oil/primer oil to saturate the wood and make it as resistant as possible to water ingress.
Teak wood oil and mahogany oil
Our Marine B Wood Oil (30-551) is a water-repellent alkyd oil that can be used as a finishing coat on most types of wood, both outdoors and indoors. This is an excellent wood oil for noble woods such as mahogany and teak. So, if you are looking for teak wood oil for your boat, this product is a great option.
Primer oil
Some things go hand in hand. Our Marine A Primer Oil has an excellent water-repellent property and a UV filter that prevents bleaching. The primer oil is suitable for all untreated surfaces, whether outdoors or indoors. It penetrates deep into the wood and creates a solid base for further treatment with Biltema’s Marine B Wood Oil, boat varnish, or our sealer/primer for wood and metal.
