Quick tips for thoroughly cleaning your boat
A boat is a huge investment. Therefore, maintenance and cleaning of the boat is important, because it can preserve the boat's value and, at the same time, ensure that you can use it as often and whenever you want.
Cleaning will give you a beautiful and shiny boat you can proudly take on the open sea. But cleaning your boat is not just about vanity.
A thorough cleaning keeps your boat functional for longer and protects against attacks from mould, mildew and much more. Cleaning is therefore a significant aspect of the regular maintenance you must perform as a boat owner.
Learn more below about what you need to clean.
Interior boat cleaning
Always start with the interior. If dirt and grime gets on the deck while cleaning the interior, you won’t have to clean the outside twice.
Be sure to clean the following:
- Carpets – use a vacuum cleaner and then scrub with soap and water
- Non-slip surfaces – including non-skid coatings. Use a stiff brush and plenty of water
- Vinyl – use water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. You may also want to use vinyl cleaner
- Cushions – remove the covers and wash according to the washing instructions. Sprinkle baking soda on both sides of the cushions to eliminate any bad odours
- Toilet – flush the hoses once a month with our sanitary fluid, which removes dirt and limescale deposits.
Exterior boat cleaning
When it comes to cleaning the outside of the boat, remember to clean the following:
- The hull and gelcoat surfaces – polish with two layers of wax every spring for a shiny and glossy surface, or use our boat cleaner, depending on how badly soiled your boat is.
- The hull bottom – you can use our hull brush. Gentle and effective for removing algae, water marks and barnacles.
- Canopy and windows – clean regularly with a soft brush, but do not use soap as this may ruin the impregnation.
- Engine – wash the engine cover and exterior, and finish with wax. Do not use hard brushes; use a microfibre cloth or washing gloves instead.
- Teak – scrub regularly with soapy water, and if your teak is heavily soiled, you can use our teak cleaner.
