The spotlight is useful in most environments, but perhaps especially when driving on country roads or in the forest.
What are the rules regarding spotlights?
Spotlights must be securely mounted and may only be used at night when there are no other road users nearby. They must be connected to the vehicle’s electrical system so that they turn off when switching from high beam to low beam as they must not shine at the same time as dipped beam headlamps. If you want to install more than three auxiliary lights, you need to place the largest along the outer vehicle edges so as not to overly change the light distribution of the vehicle.
Large or small spotlights?
Whether to choose large or small spotlights is primarily a matter of preference. Larger spotlights make a more eye-catching impression and provide stronger illumination, while the smaller ones have a more discreet look and also cost a little more.
Halogen, xenon or LED?
The price of auxiliary lights varies depending on the lighting technology used. Halogen lamps are usually the cheapest option, but unlike xenon lamps, they do not shine as brightly nor are they as durable. Another advantage of xenon lamps is that their service life is about five times longer than halogen lamps. LEDs also have many advantages, such as low power consumption, long burn-time and high brightness. However, their range is not as far as halogen or xenon lamps, and they also cost more. However, the three lamp types can be combined, which means you can benefit from their different advantages.
Installing spotlights
You can fit auxiliary lights to your vehicle yourself if you feel confident enough, otherwise you can get a workshop to do it. If you fit the auxiliary lights yourself, you are responsible for ensuring they are correctly installed. At Biltema you will find different types of auxiliary lights, accessories, and the tools you need for installation.
