Our hydraulic oils have good properties even at lower temperatures and are suitable for use in all seasons.
What does hydraulic oil consist of?
Hydraulic oil consists of a base oil and additives. The base oil may consist of different types of mineral oils, vegetable oils, or synthetic oils.
The additives in the hydraulic oil consist of various other additives that influence performance by enhancing and improving certain specific properties, such as viscosity, friction, temperature, and the ability to separate water and air. The additives also affect the oil’s ability to protect against wear and corrosion. Since the additives in the oils differ, the oils have different primary uses, which determines the oil you should buy. Always read the owner’s manual for the hydraulic system in which you will be using the oil to find the right hydraulic oil.
What does hydraulic oil do?
Hydraulic oil is the oil that transfers the power and output from the machine’s pump to the various parts of the hydraulic system. In addition to transferring power, hydraulic oil also lubricates the system, acts as a heat transfer medium, and prevents corrosion and wear.
The hydraulic oil comes into contact with all components in the hydraulic system, and therefore needs to be compatible with all the constituent materials in the system, so that surfaces, seals, or other components are not at risk of being adversely affected by the oil. Therefore, hydraulic oil also needs to handle water and air, regardless of whether the hydraulic system is in mobile units or in the process industry.
Frequently asked questions about hydraulic oils
Can hydraulic oil be mixed with motor oil?
No, they must not be mixed, since motor oil does not have the properties required by hydraulic oil in its areas of use.
Can different types of hydraulic oil be mixed?
Modern hydraulic oils must always be able to mix with each other, regardless of type. However, the oils need to have the same specifications and viscosity in order for them to be mixed.
How often should hydraulic oil be changed?
If you maintain your mineral-based hydraulic oil correctly, and the operating temperature never exceeds 40 degrees, the hydraulic oil should only need to be changed every 20 years.
