Adjusting V-Brakes
The most common sign that a rim brake needs to be adjusted is when the brake pad remains against the rim and does not return to position after braking.
On the other hand, if the brake pads do not make contact with the rim when you brake, it is also time to inspect the V-brake.
In the step-by-step video below, we show you how to adjust the V-brake on your bike.
Instructions:
- Press and hold the hand brake lever, and loosen one of the brake pads.
- Position the brake pad so that it is against the rim brake groove and hold the brake lever. Make sure the brake pads are not touching the tyre as this causes wear.
- Tighten the brake pad and then release the brake lever. Repeat steps 1-3 on the other brake pad.
- Hold both brake arms and unscrew the cable lock so that the cable can be precisely adjusted by tightening the cable and cable lock. Make sure to not tighten too much, the brake pads must not rest against the rim.
